Questions and answers

A virtual IBAN (International Bank Account Number) is an international bank account number that is different from a standard bank account. It is opened in the name of a financial institution to serve its end customers.

Outgoing payments are initiated in the name of the financial institution with an added reference to the end customer, while incoming payments are received in the name of the financial institution.

Virtual IBANs are provided by the e-money issuer Bilder, which is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). This ensures compliance with international payment security standards. Virtual IBANs use the same security methods as traditional banking systems, including encryption and secure transaction processing.

Funds are held in segregated accounts with trusted European partner banks.

Yes, you can open several accounts to separate financial flows. It is also possible to give each account an individual name.

An electronic money issuer (EMI) has a bank account. The EMI creates within its structure at the bank a virtual IBAN with the name ‘B’.

In this case:

  • For the bank, the owner of the ‘B’ account remains the EMI.
  • For external counterparties, ‘B’ is considered as the account holder of account ‘B’.

Why is this necessary?

  • Receipt of payments: EMI credits the virtual IBAN ‘B’ with regular card processing payments.
  • Flexibility of payment solutions: ‘B’ can use this account to accept payments from other systems, e.g. through Open Banking.
  • Transactional: The virtual IBAN can be used for partner payments and bill payments.
  • Payment card: A debit card can be added and used, for example, to pay for advertising.

In this way, the virtual IBAN expands the financial possibilities of the business, providing convenient management of funds.
